Wage statistics for 2021 show gender gap still wide

Ljubljana - The average gross monthly pay in Slovenia was at EUR 2,138 in 2021, or 10.1% more than in 2020, according to provisional data of the Statistics Office. On average, men earned EUR 2,165 gross a month and women made EUR 2,107 gross.

Nearly 65% of the working population earned less than the average gross pay. The median salary was at EUR 1,763.

One percent of men with higher education earned an average of EUR 10,510 gross a month, while 1% of women received EUR 7,944 gross a month.

The only region with above-average salaries was central Slovenia, with an average gross monthly pay of EUR 2,351. The southeastern statistical region followed with EUR 2,127 and the Primorska region with EUR 1,855.

Company directors and management board members earned the most last year (EUR 9,057 gross) and hairdressers earned the least (EUR 1,159 gross). Doctors earned about EUR 6,000 gross a month and pharmacists earned EUR 4,000.

The gender gap was wide in both the public and private sectors. In the public sector men with higher education earned an average of EUR 3,278, compared to women's EUR 2,780. In the private sector the salary of both sexes was about EUR 300 lower.
