Slovenia defeat Norway in Nations Cup
Ljubljana - Slovenia's national football team defeated Norway 2;1 (0:0) in the UEFA Nations Cup on Saturday to improve its chances of remaining in the second tier of the competition.
The home team entered the game expecting to score at least a point against the much stronger Norwegians.
At the start of the second half star striker Erling Haaland took Norway ahead and it took Slovenia almost twenty minutes to get an equaliser through Andraž Šporar.
In the 81st minute Benjamin Šeško, Slovenia' best man on the field, fired a shot from roughly 25 metres to complete a turnaround.
"This was a nice and deserved victory," Slovenian coach Matjaž Kek said. "I think we've minimised the moments of suffering and I like it how we picked up after being behind."
The surprise win strongly improves Slovenia's chance of remaining in tier B of this competition going into the last round of play.
Sweden having lost to Serbia, Slovenia are now in third place in the group, two points ahead of Sweden.
In the last round against Sweden, Slovenia need only a draw to remain in tier B, whereas Sweden need a win.
