Pahor says Russia not to be underestimated
Libeliče - President Borut Pahor cautioned the world against underestimating Russia's intentions after it annexed four Ukrainian regions, as he reiterated in a speech on Sunday Slovenia's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"President Putin's announcement that he would interpret attacks on four regions that have been illegitimately and unlawfully annexed to Russia as an attack on the Russian Federation is an ominous forecast that we may not underestimate," he said.
According to him, Slovenia "does not and will not recognise Russia's attempt to annex Ukrainian territory. We will consult with our friends, partners and allies on how to continue helping Ukraine together in its just fight. Our unity on this is essential."
Pahor made the remarks during a speech at a ceremony marking the day a century ago when Libeliče, a small community in north Slovenia, joined the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians in defiance of the results of the Carinthian Plebiscite.
