Slovenian Book Fair a prelude to Frankfurt
The Slovenian Book Fair is under way in Ljubljana until 27 November, presenting 88 publishers and hosting a number of Slovenian and foreign guests at the Gospodarsko Razstavišče, the city's main fairgrounds.
Over 200 events are planned, some of them dedicated to Slovenia's stint as the guest of honour at next year's Frankfurt Book Fair. Just like in Frankfurt, Spain is this year's guest country in Ljubljana.
A number of awards will be conferred at what is the country's main book fair, including the book of the year, best book of the fair, best debut, and the best business book.
The featured Slovenian city is Rogaška Slatina, the birthplace of prominent post-war children's book author Ela Peroci. Spain is the honorary guest country, following its guest of honour appearance at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair.
As Slovenia gears up to be the guest of honour at the 2023 fair, the Publishing Academy will feature Frankfurt Book Fair-related debates, including one with its director Jürgen Boss. Other debates will discuss the state of society, and the lives of children and youths.
Graphic novels will make their debut at the fair, the focus being on works that deal with war and its aftermath. Visitors will also have a chance to enjoy an exhibition of illustrations and get acquainted with photo books.
