Roto Slovenija, a family-run business, has acquired the Canadian kayak maker Delsyk Kayak, which it says makes its range of kayaks and canoes the most extensive in the world.

Roto Slovenija is part of the Murska Sobota-based international group specialising in plastic products, which advertises itself as a leading European rotomoulding manufacturer.

Announcing the deal in a written statement on 11 April, Roto Slovenija said its range of kayaks has now expanded to 72 models.

The deal involves the acquisition of the Delsyk Kayak brand and the entire production, including six tools for professional sea kayaks, all machinery, materials and components.

Roto Slovenija has pledged to uphold the 40-year tradition of Delsyk Kayak. This Canadian pioneer of polyethylene sea kayaks was founded by the late Mike Neckar, one of the most creative kayak designers in the world. His kayaks were used in some historic trips such as the first kayak crossing from California to Hawaii.

Roto Slovenija has already tested six models of kayaks in the waters off Piran with the help of Benjamin Savšek, the reigning Olympic champion in slalom canoeing.

It said it had already received orders for the kayaks from distributors in Germany, Sweden and from America.

Roto Slovenija started making kayaks in 1996 and has expanded in this segment by acquiring five kayak makers.

The company posted €11.58 million in sales revenue in 2021, 25% more than the year before, as net profit rose by 19% to €192,000, shows the latest available data from AJPES, the agency for public legal records.

According to information on its website, Roto Group generated revenues of €82 million in 2021, selling products in 65 countries around the world.

The group employs more than 550 people in eight factories in different European countries. It produces more than 4,000 different products, ranging from wastewater treatment plants, water tanks, oil and grease separators to pumping stations.

Their own brand products are used in agriculture, garden, sports and environmental solutions. They use composites and biodegradable and recycled polymers.

They also manufacture a wide range of components for various industries such as automotive, marine, construction and agricultural machinery, aquaculture and logistics.
