Presidential Election: Pahor still with convincing lead
Some 80% of the ruling Democrats' (SDS) voters and about a half of the voters of the junior coalition new Slovenia (NSi) would vote for Pahor if elections were held this Sunday, the daily Dnevnik says in revealing the results of the survey.
Little more than 15% of the respondents are still undecided, but most of them favour Pahor. If this is taken into consideration, Pahor support stands at 61% and Türk's at 39%.
In the first round of the presidential election, 67% of the surveyed SDS voters voted for Milan Zver, the candidate of the SDS and NSi, while 20% opted for Pahor.
The NSi voters were more faithful to their candidate, as 81% of them backed Zver.
Pahor also received the support of 31% of the voters of the junior coalition People's Party (SLS), while 54% of them backed Zver.
About 61% of the voters of the coalition Citizens' List (DL) voted for Pahor and 15% chose to support Zver.
Pahor got 74% of the votes among his Social Democrats (SD) while the rest voted for Türk, who stood as an independent candidate.
Based on the analysis of the first round, it could be concluded that Pahor will get the support of a large part of the opposition SD's voters, but most of the votes will contribute the right-leaning parties and the DL.
This can also be concluded from the expected turnout, as 66% of SDS voters said they would definitely cast their ballots, while a slightly lower turnout is expected among SLS and NSi voters.
This suggests that Pahor will be backed by about 80% of SDS voters and just as many SLS voters, a half of NSi voters and 65% of DL supporters.
Among the left-leaning parties, about 70% of SD voters, 45% of coalition Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) and 25% of the opposition Positive Slovenia (PS) voters will vote for him.
Meanwhile, Türk is deemed the most suitable candidate for president by 61% of PS voters, 44% of DeSUS voters, 35% of DL voters and just as many NSi voters. His support among the SD voters stands at 21% and among the SDS at 13%.
The survey was conducted between 20 and 22 November among 700 people.
