The meeting was also attended by Police Commissioner Stanislav Veniger, Defence Ministry State Secretary Peter Stavanja and Chief of the General Staff, Brigadier Dobran Božič.

Unofficial reports suggested that this meant a meeting of the National Security Council, whose task is to coordinate the views and measures of ministries and other state bodies and assess security risks when it comes to national security.

The meeting was held after Monday's protest in Maribor against the mayor of the country's second biggest city turned violent and as a follow-up rally was staged in the capital today.

Janša's office said in its press release that the developments at Monday's protest would be discussed by the government on Wednesday.
