Citizens' List Expected to Leave Government
While it is not clear what the resignation of DL head Gregor Virant as parliament speaker, of Janez Šušteršič as the finance minister and of Senko Pličanič as justice and public administration minister would mean for future developments in the political crisis, it would definitely mean a minority government.
The resignation of Janša as well as of Zoran Janković as Ljubljana mayor over graft accusation has been demanded by two more coalition parties, the People's Party (SLS) and Pensioners' Party (DeSUS).
Unofficially, talks are being conducted in parliament on the formation of a new coalition, the majority of parties have however been sceptical about being able to come to an agreement on a new political or technocrat PM-designate.
Moreover, coalition party heads held a meeting on Monday at the initiative of Janša's only remaining supporter in the coalition, New Slovenia (NSi), they however stayed tight-lipped after the talks. Virant merely said that he did not feel that anything had changed.
The ruling Democrats (SDS) have indicated several times that Janša would not resign or subject himself to a vote of confidence and called on the coalition parties to propose a vote of no confidence instead.
The motion for a no-confidence vote would need to include a proposal for a new PM-designate, while the three breakaway coalition party are also showing no readiness to cooperate with the opposition Positive Slovenia (PS) until Janković, the party's former head, also resigns as mayor.
