Both the sports media and other competitors put Maze in the hunt for medals in all five events at the 42nd World Championships. Germany's double Olympic medallist Maria Höfl Riesch even said she would not be surprised if the 29-year-old from Slovenia won five golds.

Meanwhile, Maze has mentioned the possibility of skipping an event to rest if she managed to win two gold medals before that.

The Slovenian star, who won one gold and one silver at the last championships in Germany's Garmisch-Partenkirchen two years ago, is in record-breaking form this season, with seven wins and a total of 17 podiums at 25 world cup races so far.

Having a chance of winning all the races, Maze is reported to have the most chances in the super-combined, slalom and giant slalom. In the latter discipline, she has already secured an overall title in the World Cup and will be defending gold from two years.

In January, the 29-year-old became one of only six women skiers in history to celebrate World Cup wins in all modern ski events.

Apart from individual disciplines, Maze is looking at winning this year's overall World Cup Crystal Globe.

With eleven races still in the World Cup calendar and an average of 66 points per race this season, Maze is currently 306 points behind Hermann Maier's overall record.

At the Schladming championships, Slovenia has a total of 21 skiers applied, nine ladies and twelve men, including downhill specialist Andrej Jerman, who announced the end of his professional skiing career last week following injury problems and a recent crash in Kitzbühel.
