The 36-year-old Slovenian boxer will face the Floridian prodigy, who is 12 years his junior, for a chance to take on the World Boxing Organization's (WBO) title holder in a subsequent fight.

The match in Brooklyn will be Zavec's first return to the US since he lost the International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title to Andre Berto in Mississippi on 3 September 2011.

Zavec has since faced Bethuel Uushona of Namibia in Maribor on 24 March 2012, which he won by unanimous decision, before undergoing an operation on his right elbow to clear loose cartilage in late May.

"Back to action again. New York, here I come, and I'm leaving only with a win. I'm very happy. Dreams are becoming a reality," Zavec tweeted on Wednesday.
