National Gallery Under Renovation
The collection will remain at the new wing until autumn 2015, when the restoration of the old premises is expected to complete.
Gothic art is represented above all with sculptures, while the art from the 17th century is represented with paintings that reflect the change from Mannerism to Baroque in Slovenian lands.
The display moreover features sacral and non-sacral art from the 17th century.
The 18th century is presented with the works by Franc Kavčič, who is a connecting link between the 18th century Baroque and the first half of 19th century, while the artwork from the late 19th and 20th centuries is displayed in three halls.
28 works of art in the new exhibition did also get QR codes providing additional information.
The old part of the gallery, the Narodni dom, was built by Czech architect František Škabrout in 1896. At the beginning it housed various associations and clubs, among them the National Gallery, which claimed the building for itself in 1925.
The ongoing renovation of the old building is the third and final stage of the restoration of the National Gallery, which started more than 26 years ago, Jaki told the press in October, when the restoration started.
As part of this long-lasting restoration, the National Gallery got two new extensions.
