Over 2,500 Volunteers for EuroBasket 2013
Most volunteers who answered a public call that was open for two months and a half come from Slovenia (some 1,900), while the rest come from Lithuania, Italy, Turkey, Poland and other countries.
The oldest volunteer to apply will turn 77 this year, while the youngest will turn 18 only four months before the championships; 55% of the applicants are men and 45% women.
The help of volunteers will be required in 13 different areas, but their main task will be to see to the needs of the participants in the championship.
Mostly, the volunteers are interested in participating in the competitive part of EuroBasket, followed by assisting the media, attaches and working at information points.
All those who applied will attend a seminar at the end of May or the beginning of June and undergo special theoretical and practical training during the matches the Slovenian team plays in the run-up to the championships.
The organisers will publish the list of 1,100 volunteers selected on 15 June.
