Slovenia's primary energy production fell by 7% last year to 3.5 million tonnes of oil equivalent, chiefly due to a 11% decrease in the output of Slovenia's sole nuclear power plant and a 9% fall in coal production.

Out of the total of 15,715 GWh gross of electricity generated in Slovenia last year, thermal power plants produced 38%, the Krško Nuclear Power Plant 35% and hydro power plants 26%. Solar plants contributed only a little over 1%.

Renewable sources contributed 18.8% of the energy produced in Slovenia in 2011, which is down 0.8 percentage points on 2010. The target value for 2020 is 25%.

Only the proportion of renewable energy for heating and cooling increased slightly in 2011, from 26.4% to 27.3%, while the share of renewable electricity fell from 32.1% to 30.8% and the share for renewable transport from 2.9% to 2.1%.
