PM Bratušek Attending Her First EU Summit
Bratušek is also to meet Luxembourg PM and Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker, Danish counterpart Helle Thorning-Schmidt and French President Francois Hollande.
The goal of the summit is to agree the implementation of key policies that are to boost economic growth, employment and competitiveness of EU member states - the energy and tax policies.
Slovenia, which wishes to implement its agreement with Russia on the South Stream pipeline project, advocates the diversification of energy supply and sources.
The other topic of the meeting, the fight against tax evasion and avoidance, is expected to bring a confirmation of a recent agreement of finance ministers on the exchange of banking information between the EU and Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Andorra, Monaco and San Marino.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso is pushing for an exchange of data on all types of income among EU members. Currently only data on interests from savings are being exchanged.
The summit is also to confirm an agreement on the number of EU commissioners. Each member state will continue to have a commissioner even though according to the Lisbon Treaty the number of commissioners should be cut to two-thirds of the number of member states after 2014.
