The two-day meeting of NATO defence ministers agreed on a concept for a post-2014 mission of NATO to Afghanistan which will be performing non-battle activities.

Jakič said that a debate regarding Slovenia's participation in this mission will start as soon as tomorrow, at a session of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.

"Whether we will take part in this campaign will be decided by the Slovenian government in consultations, which will start tomorrow....and the decision will be taken by autumn," Jakič said, adding that NATO partners had been informed about this plan.

The minister said that a UN Security Council resolution on Afghanistan would be helpful in the making of this decision, a position voiced also by Germany, Norway and Italy, as well as Sweden, which is NATO's partner for peace.

The defence ministers were also briefed about the transfer of responsibility for security to the Afghani forces. Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai is expected to proclaim the final stage of transition in the coming days.

The move will see Afghani forces take over the responsibility for security throughout the country. They will enjoy the support of ISAF mission until the end of 2014, when the final battle campaign of NATO in Afghanistan is to conclude.
