Bratušek and Milanović Stress Need for Cooperation
Bratušek, who again congratulated Croatia on its EU entry, scheduled for 1 July, said that cooperation and dialogue are "absolutely the only and the right way", while Milanović announced that today's meeting was only one among regular working meetings of this sort planned.
Bratušek welcomed Croatia to the EU and expressed Slovenia's readiness to continue helping its neighbour if necessary.
The Croatian prime minister stressed that cooperation was necessary in shared goals and interests and highlighted economic cooperation.
As regards the implementation of the memorandum regarding the dispute around the defunct LB bank, Milanović said proceedings at Croatian courts - where the bank is sued over the issue of Yugoslav-era savings - would not be stopped. He did however express his hope that a solution would be found.
This was Bratušek's first visit to Croatia, while she met Milanović earlier this year when she invited him to attend the ratification of Croatia's EU accession treaty in Slovenia's parliament on 2 April.
Slovenia ratified the accession treaty after the two countries signed in March the Mokrice Memorandum, which envisaged that the lawsuits in Croatia be put on hold and the issue resolved as part of succession to the former Yugoslavia.
