The index was still one percentage point down compared to last July and one point below last year's average, Statistics Office data released on Tuesday show.

Consumers have become substantially more optimistic about employment prospects in the coming 12 months, with the value of this indicator improving by 7 percentage points compared to June.

On the other hand, expectations were down substantially when it comes to the financial state of households in the coming 12 months.

The current and past situation indicators also mostly decreased. Compared to the previous month only the value of the indicator "suitability of the moment for major purchases" increased.

Moreover, the quarterly question on the likelihood of spending large sums of money on home improvements over the next 12 months showed that in July 2013 the indicator decreased by 11 percentage points compared to April 2013.
