Half a Million Visit Ljubljana Castle in Seven Months

Nekategorizirano

The medieval castle, first mentioned in the 12th century, is a very popular tourist attraction and a venue for many cultural events, conferences and diplomatic events. In summer, one of the most attractive events are open-air cinema nights.

Since the castle is usually most visited in August, its operator, Javni zavod Ljubljanski grad, expects to significantly increase the visitor numbers this months. The company also expects a rise in visitors in September, when Ljubljana co-hosts one of the biggest sports events in Slovenia's history, EuroBasket 2013.

The funicular started operating in December 2006 and cost EUR 7.2m to build. However, the idea of some sort of an elevator to the castle originates in the late 19th century, when Mayor Ivan Hribar mentioned it in a letter to the Austro-Hungarian authorities.
