Rain Spoils EuroBasket Festivities in Ljubljana
Turizem Ljubljana, which is organising events accompanying the European Basketball Championships, said it may reschedule the concerts. As a result, the schedule from Wednesday onwards may be affected.
Slovenian ska punk group Elvis Jackson and Bosnian folk singer Halid Bešlić were scheduled to be the headline acts today and tomorrow.
The organisers announced that activities on the basketball court in Congress Square will also be cancelled.
The square in the city centre has become a focal point of events accompanying the biggest sporting event in Slovenia's history.
Apart from concerts and other entertainment activities, the square is hosting numerous stalls serving food and drinks and acts as an official fan zone carrying broadcasts of EuroBasket matches, which will be unaffected by the weather.
The line-up of events accompanying EuroBasket in Ljubljana will also include events at the city libraries catering for the young and old.
An exhibition of Slovenian athletes at Olympic games, which includes replicas of all medals won by Slovenian athletes since 1912, will be held at the Prežihov Voranc Library until 20 September and from 21 September to 5 October in the Šiška Library.
Another exhibition will showcase Olympic stamps, while there will also be a number of lectures held at libraries about refereeing in basketball.
A debate evening featuring Slovenian basketball legends Tomaž Pavlin, Ivo Daneu, Aljoša Žorga and Peter Vilfan will take place at the Prežihov Voranc Library on 17 September.
The Oton Župančič Library will meanwhile host a series of screenings of legendary basketball matches from all time between 9 and 13 September.
Meanwhile, the library will also host a number of workshops for children featuring reading competitions and events featuring the official mascot of the tournament, Lipko.
