While a medal remained an unfulfilled wish, the tournament in Slovenia will be remembered primarily for the great support from Slovenian fans.

Veteran Boštjan Nachbar praised the fans, saying that they managed to unite Slovenia, a feeling he "would not trade for a medal".

Nachbar's future with the national team is uncertain, while it is also not clear whether captain Jaka Lakovič will still play for Slovenia. Both players said that they had not made the final decision yet.

They said they would take a month or two to think about everything and then make a public announcement about their availability for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

"I need some time to think. We know that we said that the time has come for younger players to take over main roles, but it is not easy to say goodbye to the national team career," said the 35-year-old Lakovič.

He is not afraid for the future of Slovenian basketball. "We have enough young players who showed at this championship what are they made of and who could bear the load of responsibility at major competitions in the future."

Head coach Božidar Maljković, whose contract with the Slovenian Basketball Association has expired, said he regretted Slovenia not winning a medal at the EuroBasket, but added that "we have done a good job".

Best Slovenian player Goran Dragić, who was voted to the EuroBasket 2013 All Tournament Team, said he will always be at disposal to the national team if healthy. He praised the fans and said he would like to continue to work with Maljković as head coach.
