The Global Underwater Awareness Association (GUWAA) recently organized the 2nd World Underwater Cleanup and Protection Day and in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. The event commemorated Jacques-Yves Cousteau, a man who was responsible for introducing the beauty of the underwater environment to countless individuals. Cousteau has been an inspiration to millions of underwater enthusiasts and his efforts to promote the importance of water protection remain extremely relevant today. Divers from 60 countries around the world participated in the event. The divers were even monitored by Guinness World Records™ for the MOST PARTICIPANTS IN AN UNDERWATER CLEAN UP (MULTIPLE VENUES). Results will be checked and finalized over the next month after all the necessary materials, pictures and shots have been collected.

Prince Albert II opened the 2nd World Underwater Cleanup and Protection Day by handing over the event's symbol - an old diving helmet - to the head of the diving team in Monaco. In addition to Prince Albert II, there were also many other prominent guests present at the official opening. Roger Fisk, a prominent member of Barack Obama's presidential campaign was on hand. Rade Šerbedžija, a member of the GUWAA management board and the president of the Bled Film Festival board attended as well, along with Berndard Fautrier, the vice president of the Prince Albert II Foundation.
Divers from Bled, Novo mesto and Murska Sobota participated in the event, under the patronage of the Slovenian Diving Association and with the support of the Bled Film Festival.
