With the sale the operator of the Jože Pučnik Ljubljana Airport, the state could get fresh capital, while at the same time it could continue to control the operations of the new owner by means of regulations and laws, Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Ministry State Secretary Bojan Babič said.

He is convinced that the sale would bring a positive result for the state, which wants to find a development-oriented buyer, which would develop airline transport and pursue other activities at the airport ensuring development of the region.

According to Babič, a spatial plan for the airport is being prepared which envisages a railway link to Ljubljana, which could be built in four years. This is necessary for the development of the airport, particularly for cargo transport, he said.

Babič also talked about other major infrastructural projects in the Gorenjsko region, saying that the investment in the second tube of the Karavanke Tunnel, shared with Austria, is in the procedure of obtaining environmental permits.

This procedure could be concluded in two years, while the construction of the tunnel tube finished by 2018, he added.
