The bank explained today that the layoffs are part of reorganisation and an adjustment of the size of the workforce to the situation on the Slovenian banking market.

It said that the 228 jobs would be scrapped by the end of the year, two thirds of which via soft methods such a retirement. 80 have been included into the redundant workers programme.

NLB said at the start of the month that a job cuts programme would be concluded at the end of June 2014.

The bank's reorganisation plan presented in May envisaged a total reduction of staff in Slovenia by a fifth within 18 to 24 months. When the programme was revealed, 3,572 people worked at NLB, which means that some 700 are to be laid off in total.
