In the 2012/2013 season, Maze broke the overall score record among women, winning eleven races and securing 24 podium finishes (breaking a 13-year-old record), and winning races in all five disciplines.

Slovenia's best skier of all time scored a record 2,414 points in the World Cup last season, leaving the second-placed Maria Höfl-Riesch of Germany 1,313 points behind, which is also an all-time record.

The eleven wins in a single season is the third-best result ever in the World Cup, behind only Vreni Schneider of Switzerland (14 wins in the 1988/89 season) and Lindsey Vonn of the US (12 wins in the 2011/12 season). The American will be Maze's biggest rival this season.

Only six female skiers managed to win all five disciplines, and only three did it in a single season. Maze was in the top ten in 32 out of 35 races and also won the giant slalom, super-G and super combined categories.

Sölden is the perfect start for the season for Maze, as she has already won there three times in her career, which is a record shared with the Austrian legend Hermann Maier. She was also the winner in Sölden last year.

"I'm very proud of these three wins," the Slovenian champion told the Austrian press agency APA ahead of the event.

Maze has also been voted the skier of the year by the International Association of Ski Journalists, finishing ahead of last year's winner, Marcel Hirscher of Austria, and Ted Ligety of the US.

Also to compete for the Slovenian team alongside Maze will be Ilka Štuhec and Katarina Lavtar. Male skiers will open their season in Sölden on Sunday, with Slovenia being represented by Janez Jazbec and Žan Kranjec.
