Skiing: Tina Maze With Wrong Approach in Sölden
Maze finished the race 3.03 seconds behind the winner Lara Gut of Switzerland. Austria's Kathrin Zettel placed second (+0.84) and Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg third (+1.22).
After winning eleven races in all five disciplines and securing 24 podium finishes the record-breaking 2013/2014 season, Maze already clocked a 2.17-second gap to the winner in the first run to place 6th.
She was expected to attack openly in the second run, especially as the course was set by her former coach Livio Magoni, but she was slow and only managed 27th time.
Visibly disappointed, the 30-year-old was hopeful for a turnaround in the next race, a slalom scheduled for 16 November in Finland's Levi.
"Even in recent couple of weeks my curves were not as they are supposed to be. And then coming here under the pressure as a favourite... Better to forget it," Maze told Radio Slovenija after the race.
