Bank Stress Tests Methodology to Be Disclosed

The methodology, or at least parts of it, will be disclosed following pressure from several senior economists that management consultancy Oliver Wyman disclose the assumptions it is using in the analysis of bank balance sheets.
Governor of central bank Banka Slovenije Boštjan Jazbec said last week the scope of disclosure would depend on Oliver Wyman, as some of the methods it uses are proprietary.
A group of economists headed by Jože P. Damijan of the Ljubljana Faculty of Economics has recently issued a public petition urging the disclosure.
They argued that selection of methodology had a decisive impact on the outcome of the stress tests and the resulting estimate of how much capital Slovenian banks will need.
In a follow-up blog post on 29 October, Damijan said it was crucial that the methodology was the same for all countries, which had not been the case in the past.
