FM Erjavec Backs Stronger Asia-Europe Ties at ASEM Meeting
Attending the Asia-Europe Meeting, which has been overshadowed by the Philippines typhoon disaster, Erjavec participated in a panel on the need to boost cooperation and growth.
He also held bilateral meetings, including with South Korean counterpart Yun Byung-se and the host, Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, with whom he focused on bilateral ties while thanking India for its contribution to the Bled Strategic Forum.
Khurshid described Slovenia as an important partner in business as well as culture and education and expressed India's interest to continue with cooperation within the framework of the Slovenia-based International Centre for the Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE).
The two ministers moreover signed an agreement abolishing short-term visas for holders of diplomatic passports.
The central topic of the ASEM meeting is "Bridge to Partnership for Growth and Development", while participants are also debating new challenges in security, such as terrorism, cyber security, secure supply of food, water and energy, disaster management and human trafficking.
After the meeting, Erjavec will officially launch in New Delhi the premises Fairwood Smart Green, an Indian-Slovenian renewables joint venture, and attend the Global Information Technology Platform event, where Slovenian products will also be featured.
The minister will moreover attend the signing of a code share agreement between Slovenia's air carrier Adria Airways and Air India, which makes for a more effective use of both airlines' services. Also, a memorandum on cooperation between public broadcasters RTV Slovenija and India's Prasar Bharati is to be signed.
Ministers and officials from 51 ASEM member countries are attending the meeting, which will conclude on Tuesday.
