"Miele" Wins Best Film as Curtain Lowered on LIFFe
The three-member LIFFe jury selected Miele among 10 films in the Perspectives Section, including audience favourite "Call Girl" by Mikael Marcimain and the winner of the FIPRESCI Prize of the International Federation of Film Critics "Salvo" by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza.
Golino's debut feature film depicts the birth of an unusual and tragic friendship through the fundamental question of modern ethics with the help of a well-defined film language and smart directing, which presents the key question to the viewer, the jury wrote in its decision.
The winning film will be honoured with a special screening on Monday at 6 PM which will make for the final act of this year's festival.
The LIFFe award jury consisting of Italian film expert Tiziana Finzi, Slovenian director Nejc Gazvoda and Croatian director Lordan Zafranović also gave a special mention to the Croatian-Bosnian drama "Obrana i zaštita" (A Stranger) by Bobo Jelčić.
The audience meanwhile selected Swedish political drama "Call Girl" for the Dragon Prize and the critics chose the Italian crime drama "Salvo" for the FIPRESCI Prize. The award for best short film went to the Croatian drama about growing up "Terarij" by Hana Jušić.
The 24th LIFFe saw more that 280 screenings of the 98 feature and 26 short films included in the programme. A total of 42,000 tickets were sold, according to the organisers.
