IEDC with a new book presenting IEDC art collection
"The entirety of artworks at the IEDC-Bled School of Management (200 artworks) can be conditionally classified as a corporate collection, which is how we currently define the colleting of artwork by business establishments or other companies. Even though this kind of collection has a long history, IEDC is the only educational organization in Slovenia with a concisely formed concept of collecting," claims Lilijana Stepančič, art historian and co-author of the book. In this book Prof. Danica Purg, President, IEDC, and IEDC faculty members Dr. Ian Sutherland and Prof. Arnold Walravens contributed the discussion on connections between Art and Leadership practice based on the experience in IEDC. Lilijana Stepančič, the art historian and IEDC alumna, describes the art collection; finally, architect and artist Matej Mljač writes about the architecture of the school and its architect Prof. Vojteh Ravnikar.
On that occasion, the reception for artists whose work is part of IEDC art collection and journalists took place at the IEDC-Bled School of Management. At the reception, Prof. Danica Purg, IEDC President and co-author of the book, and Dr. Ian Sutherland, deputy dean for research at IEDC and co-author of the book, gave lectures.
"The IEDC-Bled School of Management plays an active role in promoting the integration of artistic concepts and methods within our leadership development curriculum. According to our vision, the world needs creative leaders more than ever before, and art is a tool to develop creativity," claims Prof. Danica Purg.
"At our School arts have been integrated in leadership development in various ways; by using music to exercise listening, music compositions for discovering systems and structures, visual art and film for reflection, discovering the skills of observing personal leadership styles, and literature for developing beautiful speaking and writing and to discover the power of the metaphor. This can be done only if the school itself is consequently artfully built and equipped, " says dr. Ian Sutherland, deputy dean for research and co-author of the book.
"Architect and Professor Vojteh Ravnikar and Professor Danica Purg compiled the story of the three villas at Bled gradually. With the fundamental values of space and time, and a common outlook on the world; all of which are a recipe for good architecture, "stresses architect and artist Matej Mljač and co-author of the book.
Reception was attended by some important Slovenia artists. A world-famous industrial designer Oskar Kogoj; painter, who received many awards and acknowledgements for his creations Andrej Jemec; a Slovene painter and illustrator of children's books Melita Vovk; singer Tinkara Kovač, bestselling mezzo-soprano Manca Izmajlova etc.
