Fmr President Türk Becomes Club of Madrid Member
Türk thanked the members of the club for the trust expressed and said he would actively work towards its goals and participate in its projects, the former president's office said in a press release.
The Club of Madrid, which was established in Madrid in 2001, strives to further democracy and debates issues related to global political leadership and sustainable development. It organises special projects in the Arab world, in Haiti and Myanmar, the release also says.
Türk's predecessor Milan Kučan has also been a member of the club since 2004, while other notable members include former Italian and Spanish prime ministers Romano Prodi and Jose Maria Aznar. The late Czech President Vaclav Havel was a member as well.
