Actress Drolc Celebrating 90th Birthday
Drolc, mostly a theatre actress but also in the cast of the first Slovenian feature film "On Our Own Land" (1948), recently told the STA she was happy she would be able to celebrate with the members of the theatre at which she had spent so much time.
Drolc, who continues to perform, already got involved in acting before WWII as part of a group in Maribor, where she was later a member of the SNG national theatre from 1945 to 1947.
Her next home was the Slovenian theatre in Trieste (1948-1959) from where she moved the the Ljubljana SNG theatre in 1960. In 1982 she started teaching at the Ljubljana Theatre, radio, film and TV academy.
Drolc is known for her subtle execution of demanding roles and has excelled both in classical and modern plays, including in comedies.
She also has fond memories of her film performances, notably in "On Wings of Paper" (1967), "In the Gorge" (1971) and in "Blossoms in Autumn" (1978).
Drolc is the winner of a number of awards, including of the most prestigious acting award, the Borštnik ring, in 1983, and of the highest culture honour in Slovenia, the Prešeren Prize for lifetime achievement, in 2009.
