Date of EU Elections to Be Set Mid-February
The elections will be held Europe-wide between 22 and 25 May and the president has until 10 March to sign an order setting the exact date.
Most likely, he will pick 25 May, a Sunday, since voting in Slovenia is typically held Sundays.
Pahor hopes parliament will pass the bill soon enough so that its provisions can apply to this year's elections, his office said Friday.
The amendments are largely technical. They determine that candidates from non-EU countries must submit a statement saying their candidate eligibility in their country of origin is intact.
Moreover, a party can decide to use on the ballot the name and logo of the European political grouping it belongs to.
The amendments are to be fast-tracked at a National Assembly session that starts on 27 January.
