The finalists were selected by almost 50,000 readers of Slovenian car magazines and web portals, among which a jury of automotive journalists picked the winner.

The award has been conferred since 1993, with the three most recent past winners being VW Passat (2011), Ford Focus (2012) and VW Golf (2013).
