The 50th Wine Fair, destined for both amateur wine lovers and professionals, will take place at the Gospodarsko razstavišče fairgrounds from 4 to 6 September, when visitors also have the opportunity to join in on selecting the best Chardonnay as part of the first Wine Challenge.

While the first Ljubljana international wine fair took place 1954, its origins date back as far as 1926, whereas wine competitions keep an even longer track record with the first "Tasting of Illyrian Wines" in 1811.

Meanwhile, the International Wine Competition, which will unfold from 27 to 29 June, came under the auspices of the Paris-based International Vine and Wine Office in 1955, which makes it the oldest international wine competition in the world organised in cooperation with this organisation, according to the organisers.

Eventually, the competition has become a reference competition in all three world organisations for sensory wine analysis including International Union of Oenologists, World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits (VinoFed) and International Organisation for Vine and Wine (OIV).

The selection of wines will be accompanied by a vast culinary, tourist and culture activities like a culinary competition, wine auction and the Jakob tourism prize for most innovative urban street food.
