Exhibition: Ski jumping history wrote in Slovenia
Just a few days after Slovenia's Peter Prevc won the silber medal in Ski Jumping in Sochi, an exhibition on the castle hill takes the visitor back in time and shows the Slovenian history of ski jumping in photos from Planica. Opened in 1934, Planica near Kranjska Gora is the mecca of ski jumping in Slovenia.
The exhibit in the wide cellars of the medieval castle was put together by the National Museum of Contemporary History in Ljubljana. Its rich collection of photos and negatives (over 2 Mio.) made it possible to find pictures from the very beginning of ski jumping until 1991. The exhibition, which is opening tomorrow, also marks the 80th anniversary of the first international ski jumping competition in Planica.
The vast majority of the photos were shot by various well-known Slovene photographers, such as Edi Šelhaus Svetozar Busić. The cherry on the top are the caricatures on the theme of ski jumping by the artist Bine Rogelj, also a former successful jumper. His drawings add a humorous touch to the exhibit.
