Pikalo and Mutko discussed opportunities to advance cooperation in sports between the two countries, the legacy of Olympic games and opportunities to use infrastructure after the end of the event, the Slovenian Olympic Committee said in a press release.

The separate discussion with Cardenal meanwhile revolved about the expectations and results at the Olympics, about the economic situation of both countries and its effects on the financing of sports. Pikalo and Cardenal also touched on policies of the World Anti-Doping Agency, the problem of match-fixing and policies regarding online betting sites.

The pair discussed a plan for an exchange of sports infrastructure and know-how in order to help grow sport areas that are underdeveloped, Pikalo said after the meeting.

Yesterday, President Borut Pahor announced that he would travel to the Winter Olympics in Sochi on Sunday after his trip was delayed by the relief efforts in the aftermath of the recent ice storm in Slovenia.

Pahor, who initially planned to also attend the opening ceremony, will attend a few sporting events that feature Slovenian athletes, including Sunday's ice-hockey match between Slovenia and the US, and visit the Olympic village.
