Maribor opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Marcos Tavares, carrying the lead into the halftime break.

Sevilla struck back in the second half with an early goal by Kevin Gameiro and Federico Fazio took the guests into the lead in the 72nd minute.

The home side looked doomed but a well-timed replacement that brought in recent acquisition Dare Vršič, who equalised in the 81st minute.

The teams will play the return leg in Sevilla on the 27th.

If Maribor manages to advance, this would be the club's biggest success in history.
