"The results of the referendum in the given circumstances and conditions will be neither legitimate nor internationally valid, which is why Slovenia cannot recognise them," says the release published on the ministry's website.

The ministry continues to closely monitor the developments in Ukraine and calls on all sides to conduct a constructive dialogue. "We fully support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemn all acts which would undermine it."

Noting that Slovenia has friendly and intensive relations with Russia, the ministry called on Russia to make an effort towards a solution which will ensure full respect of human rights of all citizens of Ukraine, respect of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and stability and security in the region.
