Trilateral meetings will be dedicated to exchanging opinions and ideas and to discussing issues of significant importance to all three countries and the EU, the presidents said.

"We have similar positions regarding important European and regional issues," Josipović told the press in a joint statement of the three presidents.

The first trilateral meeting, which has been proposed by Pahor and Josipović, was labelled as beneficial and successful by Fischer.

Pahor underlined that such initiatives are very important, as dialogue is of significant importance for peace and stability. He added that the trio had a special responsibility to propose such initiatives, being experts on the region.

The presidents also talked about the situation in Ukraine, with Fischer expressing hope that an address by Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled for tomorrow will not further aggravate the situation.
