PM Attending EU Summit Focusing on Ukraine Crisis
EU leaders will be deciding how to respond to the newest developments in the Ukraine crisis, which saw Russia annex Crimea on Tuesday.
The summit is expected to discuss whether to step up measures against Russia by expanding the existing list of unwanted persons. However, sources in Brussels say that the summit could also see economic sanctions introduced.
The EU has already suspended visa liberalisation talks and labelled 21 Russian and Crimean politicians persona non grata. The politicians were prohibited from entering the EU and their assets in the bloc have been frozen.
Although the Ukraine crisis is expected to overshadow other topics, the EU leaders are also to talk about several other issues, with the most prominent being energy dependency of the bloc.
The agenda also includes energy and climate change goals until 2030, the European semester, as well as competitiveness and industrial policy.
