Prevc, holder of two Olympic medals from Sochi, landed a hill record of 142 metre in the second run to edge Severin Freund of Austria by almost three points. Norwegian jumper Anders Bardal was in third, five points behind.

The win was enough for Prevc to take second place in the overall World Cup ranking ahead of Freund, who has had an outstanding post-Olympic season.

"Everything went as planned. This was one of the fairest events this season. It was raining, the air was calm and I took advantage of that. The spectators took me to victory, they gave me the final atoms of power," Prevc said.

Polish double Olympic champion Kamil Stoch finished fourth today after already having secured the overall World Cup victory prior to Planica.
