In her programme, Pirc Musar promised "changes, order and a lawful environment" at the broadcaster. She sees lack of care for quality staff as RTV Slovenija's greatest weakness. She also stressed that TV Slovenija was further behind contemporary media standards than Radio Slovenija.

Pirc Musar, whose term as information commissioner would end later this year, wishes to attract more funds through advertising, which requires higher quality programme. She moreover noted that she would not commercialise the programme, as RTV Slovenija is a key cultural institution in the country.

In her vision of the future of RTV Slovenija, she presented an idea to establish four programmes - information would be in the focus of the first, film, entertainment and sport would dominate the second, documentaries, culture and science the third and contents for children and young would be in the focus of the fourth.

Musar announced she would take three assistants: Rosana Lemut Strle, Nataša Mahne and Gorazd Slak.

Seven candidates sent their applications for the four-year term at the helm of RTV Slovenija, but one was incomplete. Apart from Pirc Musar, Filli, editor of TV Slovenija's channel 3 Ljerka Bizilj, former Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, Roman Kolar and Marko Makarovič sent their applications.

However, Rupel took himself out of the race for the post earlier today. Pirc Musar was selected in the third round of voting, in which her competitor Bizilj got 13 votes. To get appointed, a candidate must get an absolute majority of votes - 15.

What is more, the new general director will have to appoint new heads of television and radio rather soon in her term. The term of TV Slovenija director Janez Lombergar runs out in March next year and the term of Radio Slovenija director Miha Lampreht in October this year.
