Contemporary Slovenian Art on Show In Italy's Udine
The display features the protagonists of Slovenian contemporary art between 1968 and 2013. The works by 53 painters, 18 sculptors, six graphic artists and 19 photographers come from national and private collections, including from the authors' own collections.
The show, which will run until 22 June, was curated by Slovenian veteran art critic Aleksander Bassin. He decided to follow the historical development of Slovenian arts starting with the tumultuous year of 1968.
The modernist practices in the 1970s and 1980s were seen in expressive new figurative art and neo-constructivism. Meanwhile the transition to post-modernism in the late 1980s and 1990s is marked by retro-avant-garde and distinctively individualised approach by the authors, according to Bassin.
The display also features a show within the show that focuses on the landscape as the thematic preoccupation of Slovenian painting and photography, ever since Slovenian Impressionism at the start of the 20th century.
