PM Bratušek Focusing on Connection of Centre-Left Parties
The Sunday's Eurovote showed that there is great potential left-of-centre, but the fragmentation means poor support for the parties and slates on that side of the political spectrum, Bratušek said a day after she indicated that the Eurovote result would force centre-left parties to close ranks.
Bratušek pointed out that centre-left parties got more votes than centre-right in the Sunday election to the European Parliament overall. However, parties close to her got only three of Slovenia's eight seats in the EU legislature, she added.
The outgoing prime minister is confident that more cooperation left-of-centre would make a significant change in election results.
Bratušek repeated today that she was to establish "a party or an alliance" that would focus on connecting various movements with similar views. When asked which parties she was aiming for, the PM said "all left-of-centre, small, big, new etc."
