The ceremony presents the kick off event for the Stalag XVIII D project, which will be aimed at commemorating the Stalag XVIII D prisoner camp, which was set up by Nazi Germany on the premises of a defunct customs warehouse and former army barracks in Maribor.

On the occasion, the National Liberation Museum Maribor, which organises the event, expects to reveal the plans of a prisoner camp museum that is to grow on the grounds, according to museum director Aleksandra Berberih Slana.

So far, the only reminder of the history of the premises is a memorial plaque unveiled there in September 2011, which was last year visited by a Russian delegation.
