Slovenia played with one man down from the 80th minute as Dalibor Stevanović was sent off after getting a second yellow card and did not manage to survive the last ten minutes without allowing a goal.

Only six minutes after Slovenia was left without Stevanović, Purje scored from five metres away on an empty goal, with Slovenia's goalie Samir Handanović lying on the ground after saving two consecutive shots.

It is a tough start for Slovenia in the new qualifying cycle, especially given the fact that Slovenia was dominant for the most of the game but failed to score against the tough and disciplined Estonian defence.

The next opportunity for Slovenia to get back on track in the qualifying Group E will be against Switzerland at home on 9 October, which will be followed by an away game in Lithuania on 12 October.
