Zoran Dragić Joining Older Brother and Phoenix Suns in the NBA
The 25-year-old is joining his three years older Suns star Goran Dragić and has become the ninth Slovenian player in the NBA in history.
Zoran Dragić signed in 2012 for Spain's Unicaja Malaga and is leaving before the expiration of his contract.
The transfer involves a US$ 1m buyout, to which Phoenix was allowed to contribute US$ 600,000 in line with NBA rules, several media reported.
There has been speculation that Phoenix would try to get the younger Dragić on board also to help convince Goran to stay on after July 2015 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Born in 1989, Zoran Dragić started his career at Ljubljana's Ilirija and later moved to Slovan. In 2010, he signed with Krka, with which he won two Slovenian championships and the Eurochallenge Cup in the 2010-2011 season.
He later delivered solid performances for Malaga and notably played a stellar 2013 EuroBasket in Slovenia and was shining again earlier this year at the World Cup in Lithuania. Slovenia made it to the quarter-finals at both tournaments and the Dragić brothers were the key element in both cases.
