"Slovenia strongly condemns terrorism in any form and supports the countries fighting against the terrorist threat with the goal of preserving security and respect of the principles of democracy and international commitments," the ministry said.

At least 30 people, mostly soldiers, were killed in a series of attacks by Islamist militants in the north of the Sinai peninsula on Thursday.

The group Sinai Province, which changed its named from Ansar Beit al-Maqdis when it pledged allegiance to Islamic State, said it carried out the attacks.

The Foreign Ministry also condemned today the violent clash between protesters and police in Kairo and Alexandria on Sunday in which 20 people were killed, mostly Islamist protesters.

It expressed concern over the violence of the security forces and called for respect of freedom of expression and peaceful gatherings.
