Ljubljana – A total of 4,967 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Slovenia on Sunday, which is double the figure recorded a week ago. The test positivity rate rose to a record 62.9%, according to the National Institute of Public Health.
The latest figures bring the number of confirmed cases last week to almost 45,000, which represents more than 2% of the country’s entire population. This marks an increase of 74% on the week before.
Despite the huge caseload, the situation in hospitals remains stable. There were 566 patients with Covid 19 in hospital this morning, up by 17, while the number of ICU cases rose by two to 158.
A week ago there were 533 patients in hospital, of whom 160 in intensive care.
The 7-day average of daily cases increased by 352 to 6,381 and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 population is up by 188 to 3,340.
There are now an estimated 70,760 active cases in the country, the equivalent of more than 3% of the population.
