Ljubljana – The Ljubljana basketball club Cedevita Olimpija won their 18th national championship title with a 80:68 win against Krka on Sunday, to make it 3:0 in the final series.
The title marks a return to top-level basketball for the club, which was last champion in 2018 and has undergone a profound transformation after a rocky few years, most notably a merger with the Zagreb club Cedevita in 2019.
For Krka, which has seven national titles to its name, the season is not a disappointment either, having won the national cup last week.
Cedevita Olimpija was ahead for much of the game and opened an unsurmountable gap in the middle of the last quarter with a 12:2 run.
Captain Jaka Blažič was the top scorer with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists, with Kendrick Perry, the MVP of the final, adding 18.
“I’m happy about this win at the end of the season and the title of national champion. This is payment for all the effort we’ve invested throughout the entire season,” Blažič said.
